The Journey to Leadership

Christina Freeman’s journey to leadership is rooted in service, faith, family, and community. Born and raised on Dwight Street in the Greenville section of Jersey City, Christina is a lifelong resident who understands the city not only through her professional work, but through her own lived experiences. Her values were shaped by her family, her community, and her faith at Universal Full Gospel Church of God in Christ.

From an early age, Christina experienced the importance of mentorship, structure, and positive community involvement through the Police Athletic League (P.A.L.). Those early experiences helped shape her understanding of what it means for young people to have adults, programs, and institutions that invest in their potential. They also sparked a commitment to service that has remained central throughout her life.

A Life of Service

Christina serves on the front lines as a police officer, where she has gained firsthand experience with the challenges facing residents, families, and neighborhoods. Her work has strengthened her understanding of public safety, accountability, and the importance of trust between government institutions and the people they serve.

Her commitment to service extends beyond her professional responsibilities. Christina has volunteered with United Rescue and B.L.E.S.C. and has remained actively involved in community initiatives addressing public safety, community stability, and the well-being of Jersey City residents.

Her work advocating for victims of domestic violence has also shaped her approach to leadership. Through this work, Christina has seen how public safety intersects with housing, financial stability, mental health, family support, and access to resources. These experiences have reinforced her belief that effective leadership must address problems at their roots—not simply respond after a crisis occurs.

Education, Advocacy & Economic Opportunity

Christina has continued to strengthen her ability to serve through education. While pursuing her studies in Sociology and Social Work, she has focused on systemic challenges affecting urban communities, including housing insecurity, inequality, youth disconnection, and access to opportunity.

Her education has allowed her to connect what she has witnessed throughout her life with a deeper understanding of the systems and policies that influence communities.

Christina also understands the challenges of entrepreneurship and small-business ownership. As an entrepreneur and alumna of Rising Tide Capital, she recognizes the importance of creating pathways for residents to build businesses, achieve financial stability, and participate in the economic growth of their own communities.

Leadership With a Personal Purpose

As a mother, Christina’s commitment to Jersey City’s future is deeply personal. Raising her son in the community that helped raise her has strengthened her determination to help build a city where the next generation can thrive.

She understands that families want many of the same things: safe neighborhoods, strong schools, affordable communities, economic opportunity, responsive government, and confidence that their voices matter.

For Christina, these are not simply policy issues. They affect the everyday decisions families make about where they can afford to live, where their children will grow up, whether they feel safe, and whether they believe there is a future for them in Jersey City.

A Different Approach to Leadership

Christina is not defined by titles or political ambition. She is a servant-leader shaped by lived experience, guided by faith, and grounded in the community she calls home.

Her approach to leadership is simple: show up, listen, be accessible, tell people the truth, and do the work.

She believes residents deserve leadership that is transparent and accountable, but also compassionate enough to understand that government decisions affect real people and real families. She believes in practical, common-sense solutions and in bringing residents into the conversations that shape their neighborhoods.

Christina’s journey—from a young girl growing up on Dwight Street, to a mother, entrepreneur, student, public servant, advocate, and community leader—has strengthened her belief that leadership is not something that begins when someone receives a title.

Leadership begins with responsibility.

It means serving when no one is watching, listening even when conversations are difficult, standing up when something needs to change, and remaining committed long after the moment has passed.
